Cartmel College was established in 1968, becoming the fifth college of Lancaster University. The College was situated in what is now known as County South on the main Lancaster University campus before 2003, when the University offered to create a new set of residences in South West campus, giving us our entirely en-suite accommodation, new facilities and college offices. With nearly 1,200 students at Lancaster being part of Cartmel, ours is a perfect community to get involved without being too overcrowded.
The College is centred around Barker House Farm, with our bar being located in the refurbished building and our JCR (Junior Common Room) being created by the side of the building.
We pride ourselves on a strong sense of college identity – our official college colours are ‘stone’ and ‘plonk’ (or grey and burgundy if that’s easier!), whilst our college emblem/logo is the mighty Griffin, which we have also named our college magazine. Our college pose is the Ertz! Using our college motto a basis for life at Cartmel, we want every one of our members to ‘live the dream’ of a perfect, well rounded student experience during your time with us.
In our college space, we currently have many facilities that can be used by our students. Our JCR boasts two pool tables, three darts boards, a table tennis table, an ice hockey table, table football and gaming facilities such as our PS3 which has numerous games alongside it. Our JCR Executive also plan many social events, welfare campaigns and sports events to meet the needs of our students and improve your time at Lancaster.
