What are the different kinds of socials at Cartmel?

Cartmel socials are very varied and will certainly appeal to all.

We have a busy social calendar throughout every term, with the existing calendar viewable by clicking here.

Past socials have included trips to nightclubs such as ‘Feel’ in Preston, ‘Krazyhouse’ at Liverpool and venues across Manchester. Closer to home, we offer a mixture of on-campus and off-campus socials, often fancy dressed themed!

Regardless of whether it is an on-campus or off-campus social, in any situation we will never pressure anyone into drinking alcohol and you certainly won’t be frowned upon by drinking soft-drinks.

Apart from bar/club trips, we host several theme nights throughout term, for example- St Davids Day. Every Sunday, you can rattle your brains and participate in our amazing Sunday bar quiz- with prizes! We also offer food nights (pancakes!!!!! for example), and have bands coming in to grace our College during ROASTED (Cartmel Bar’s Indie/Rock night every Friday).

David Lancaster, the magician- is also quite a legend throughout our college! Especially during our Special Events!

Who are the socials for?

Our events are primarily aimed at Cartmel students, but anyone is usually welcome. Although for ticketed events, priority has to obviously be given to Cartmelians!

Regardless of whether your a student living on or off campus, we have an unlimited amount of fun at our socials so come along and take part. We are sure you will enjoy yourself!

When do these socials happen?

Apart from our two routine socials each week- Roasted (Fridays, an indie/rock night) and the Bar Quiz (Sundays), we schedule other socials around these two events. It also depends how far we are into the term (we find that towards the end of term, people are cramming revision, or busy completing coursework) and so we adjust our calendar to the needs of majority of those living with us.

Why do we have socials? Aren’t we supposed to be learning?

Pretty much everyone likes to let ‘their hair’ down…and it is for this reason that we have socials throughout the year.

Attending socials is a fantastic way to meet up with fellow friends, or even to make new ones. We’re all a friendly bunch in Cartmel and you can sure that you’ll find at least one face to talk to.

Our socials are also somewhat of an experience in themselves. We’re quite certain that you wouldn’t usually walk into a bar dressed as a Cow, or be entertained by the bizarre tricks of a magician. For our in-bar socials, you can even brush up on your ‘Pool’ skills, by playing on one of our three tables!

Another important reason why we have socials….is college spirit. Every college, be it Lonsdale, Pendle, Bowland etc, is a community. Here at Cartmel, we like to get together….as a community…and remind the other colleges what they’re missing!! (for off-campus socials, this usually involves a singing competition, insulting the rival college in close proximity…….ooooo the fun……)!
